976-EVIL. Robert Englund, dir. USA: CineTel Films, 1989.

Schlock horror movie. An apparently unused, jerry-built machine designed to replace human call-takers on a "900-" service is taken over by Satanic EVIL. Cf. Stephen King's Carrie for the "revenge of the nerd" motif (male in 976-EVIL), and his and John Carpenter's CHRISTINE (etc.), plus KILLDOZER—for demonic possession of more strictly mechanical everyday mechanisms. Cf. and contrast the main character's newly grown demonic claws with Molly Million's retractable razor-nails in W. Gibson's Neuromancer stories.
