Described by A. Huyssen as "an allegory of sexual intercourse" in which "the woman has appropriated the phallic power and activity of the machine" (see under Drama Criticism, "The Vamp and the Machine: Technology and Sexuality in Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS" 77).
