One of the point-of-view characters is "Mike Dalke[,] who will become the first person to bridge the human/machine boundary in the 'infosphere'"; there is also "an AI's construct" that "tries to explain both systems theory and quantum mechanics to" an ethnobotanist (Hendrix pp. 141-42 for the AI; Gilzinger p. 30).
