FREEJACK. Geoff Murphy, dir. Ronald Shussett and Stuart Oken, prod. USA: Warner, 1992. Loosely based on Robert Sheckley's Immortality, Inc. Emilio Estevez, Mick Jagger, Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins, featured players.

Twenty years into a dystopian future, it is possible for rich people "to plug their computer-stored beings into healthy bodies from the past," just before those healthy people died (on our time-line). Rev. Locke Peterseim, Cinefantastique 22.6 (June 1992): 57, whom we quote. The climax has a cameo with Hopkins, similar to the cyberspace confrontation in W. Gibson's Count Zero, with special effects realizing the conceit of the ghost in the machine. Note also the truck Jagger uses in his body-snatching operation; cf. and contrast trucks in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER and WARLORDS OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY (listed below, this Category).
