"Dominick 'Dom' Cobb and Arthur are 'extractors', who perform corporate espionage using an experimental military technology to infiltrate the subconscious of their targets and extract valuable information through a shared dream world."[2] Note motif of technological mediation for connecting minds, in this case the subconscious, and shared dreams. Cf. and contrast variations on this motif in Joe Haldeman's Forever Peace and the 2007 film DREAMSCAPE, which has as its premise "dream-sharing technology."[3] INCEPTION is placed in the context of recent, generally cyberpunk, SF and discussed in Michael J.
