Huelsenbeck, Richard. Memoirs of a Dada Drummer. Joachim Neugroschel, trans. New York: Viking, 1974.
Section on Jean Tinguely (130-34) discusses his use of the machine to achieve motion, which the sculptor sees as the nature of existence, dooming all efforts to find the absolute. Through pseudo-machines like Homage to New York, which was intended to self-destruct before its audience at the Museum of Modern Art, Tinguely hopes to shock the viewer and skewer Western ideology's idea of stable values.
