See for kiss between two characters, "in a Jeffries tube. As they kiss, the audience suddenly sees what appears to be an alien X-ray of their skeletons" (85), for an image of the organic contained within a machine and then penetrated and made visible technologically. Episode feature aliens tampering with human DNA and "putting horrible devices on people, including drilling screws"—or needles (startrek.com)—"into the Captain's head," as part of a series of medical experiments. Seven of Nine can come to the rescue when the holographic Doctor communicates with her via her "Borg implants" and "adjusts her sensors' phase variance," allowing Seven to see the aliens.
