THE INVISIBLE MAN. Leigh Whannell, director, executive producer (one of five), script, story (based loosely on the novel by H. G. Wells [with at least indirect influence by "The Ring of Gages" legend in Plato's Republic, Book 2]).[1][2] Elisabeth Moss, featured player. Alex Holmes, production design.[3] Australia, USA, Canada, UK: Universal Pictures et al. (production, US distribution), 2020. See IMDb for details of production and distribution.[4]

H. G. Welles's novel is science fiction, told in third-person narration but from the point of view of the scientist who discovers how to become invisible, and with some coverage of the (apparently chemical) means he used — although the process might be seen, legitimately, as the premise of the story, not its primary interest.[5] Leigh Whannell's film is told «over the shoulder», so to speak, of the primary target of The Invisible Man's evils, and there is no interest in the details of how invisibility is achieved. There are, however, shots relevant for humans and devices and Clockworks 2, showing the device by which invisibility is triggered and the full-body suit achieving it. The "device" is a simple frame with some attachments, mildly disturbing if we think of it as something suitable for torture (or kinky sex) involving electricity. The suit is black with a strong motif of hexagons, with some octagons.[[6]] The image adds up to skin-tight confinement that still allows easy and rapid movement, and a containment that renders the person inside very powerful and very dangerous.
