Davis, Ken. "The Shape of Things to Come: H. G. Wells and the Rhetoric of Proteus." In No Place Else, q.v. under Literary Criticism, 110-24.[1]

A. Korda's film THINGS TO COME (q.v. under Drama) is emphatically "Promethean": showing faith in logic, science, technology, and (social) control. Wells's The Shape of Things to Come (1933),[2] and his script for Korda's film, go beyond the Promethean to the "Protean," showing faith in the ability of all forms of life to change and adapt—and valuing individuality and freedom (117-18).
