The X-Files, "S.R. 819." Fox-TV (entertainment portion). Season 6, episode 9 (17 Jan. 1999). Daniel Sackheim, director. John Shiban, script.[1]

See for FBI Deputy Director Walter Skinner in a hospital bed "dying from a nanobot infection," also phrased, "some sort of multiplying carbon nanotechnology" (Wikipedia article side-bar and "Plot").[2] We have a hard-SF trope with nanotech, in an episode in a series that has "the look and feel" more of noir and horror than much SF. Note infiltration of Skinner by the technology to create his "carbon blood condition," with him in a modern hospital: in the midst of technology, human Skinner if violated and invaded by higher technology.[3] There's a later motif of remote-control of the nanobots potentially controlling Skinner. Still the episode is thriller/horror, with a touch of SF.
