A compulsively close close reading of typography and other design elements in Ridley Scott's ALIEN, with references also to Duncan Jones's MOON and Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Much of the typography is on machines, mechanisms, and equipment cybernetic and more generally electronic, including the Nostromo's "Emergency Destruction System," which Addey discusses in detail. Wittily written and copiously illustrated, this insightful on-line essay is highly useful for examining the visual elements in the films discussed.
