Young-ha, Kim (or Kim Young-ha). "Quiz Show." Excerpt anthologized in Readymade Bodhisattva: The Kaya Anthology of South Korean Science Fiction. Sunyoung Park and Sang Joon Park, editors. Los Angeles, USA (U of Southern CA): Kaya Press, 2019.

Reviewed by Samuel Gerald Collins in SFRA Review 329 (Summer 2019): 59-63.[1]

Collins notes that "[...] in an excerpt from Kim Young-ha’s 'Quiz Show,' two characters discuss the possibility that they are disembodied brains stored on a spaceship travelling to a distant star" (p. 62). Note for the "brain-in-a-vat" literary motif, also a thought-experiment in philosophy: "I think therefore I am" — but you may be only a brain in a vat of nutrient. In literature, note such notable works as "Mr. Spaceship," "Chicken Little," "Tithonus," "Plus," Mayflies, "The Knights of Arthur," and McCaffrey's The Ship Who Sang stories.
